Wall Street Journal Weekend Edition

Saturday, April 15, 2006
I recently subscribed to The Wall Street Journal and it seems that they make a big deal about their weekend edition. There are all kinds of references to it, such as on the wrappers that the newspaper comes in etc. The thing is, it just seemed odd to me why the weekend edition would be important since most stuff on Wall Street would happen during the week, and would therefore be written then.

So here is a breakdown of what I found in the Weekend Edition. Halliburton is going to have an IPO where it will offer some stock in Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) on the NYSE. There is an article about investors preferring stocks without dividends over stocks with dividends. There is also an article on finding low interest loans, and an article on gold. On the main section there are a lot of articles about taxes since they are due for most of America on Monday. There are also an article about illegal immigrants in college. Finally there is a section called Pursuits which seems to be all about spending money rather than making it. There are listings for expensive cars, luxury houses etc.

While there were some interesting things in the Weekend Edition of the Wall Street journal, my favorite day is still Wednesday where they have the real estate section. The most professionally useful article in the WSJ today was probably the article about Halliburton's IPO.
